This year’s festival theme highlights how music shifts between eras, styles and sounds, mirroring Longyearbyen’s own changing landscapes and histories after 100 years as Norwegian territory. The festival invites audiences to experience how transformation becomes a source of creativity, renewal, and connection.

Incredible culture in the high arctic

Longyearbyen, the administrative town of Svalbard, is located on the largest island called Spitsbergen, at 78 degrees north. The city is today a vibrant Arctic metropol with a population of 2600 people from over 40 nations.

A brief history of the music festival

The very first Arctic Chamber Music Festival was arranged in February 2018, featuring musicians from the Arctic Philharmonic as the basis of the festival, performing in various formats together with an array of talented guests.
