From Norwegian village churches to Venice’s baroque palaces, from Moldejazz to the Berlin Philharmonic, lutenist and guitarist Solmund Nystabakk has performed with a repertoire that includes everything from early music and classical via pop and folk music to contemporary music and free improvisation. He has composed music for a number of plays, participated in numerous recordings, and in 2020 completed his PhD project at the Norwegian Academy of Music and UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, where he researched the performance of 16th-17th century lute songs. Solmund plays in Ensemble NeoN, which has won the Spellemann Prize twice, as well as in a duo with soprano Berit Norbakken.
